Marbling & Writing Workshops

15.00

In this two-part class, we will first work on the basics of bookbinding to create our own journals. With our handmade journals, we’ll then put our own thoughts on paper. Through the healing power of art, this workshop will both give you the skills of constructing your own book and the tools of filling it, as a tactile, productive, and healing practice. The first class will consist of sewing pages, marbling cover paper, and creating the binding for each participant’s journal. The second class will take the work produced from the first class and give participant’s ideas, inspiration, and confidence to make journaling a resource for personal reflection and healing.

Purchase your ticket for the bookbinding workshop on Saturday, May 13, by clicking below.

About Murphy Anne Carter: After becoming involved in education reform in Texas, Murphy Anne Carter moved to New York as a member of New York City Teaching Fellows and taught AP Literature and Composition and creative writing classes at a Title I high school in Hell’s Kitchen. Back in Austin, she now teaches creative writing classes at Travis County Correctional Complex through Freehand Arts Project, a group of volunteers dedicated to bringing the creative arts to women incarcerated in Texas jails and prisons. Murphy swims in Barton Springs more days of the week than not, writes her favorite pen pals in New York and North Carolina (almost daily), and tries to sew like her mother.
